Sometimes a lawn just can't be saved with fertilizer and overseeding. Weeds have taken over, the grade is off, and no amount of patching is going to fix it. That's where a full removal and restart makes the most sense - and that's exactly what we did here.
We started from scratch. The existing lawn and weeds were completely stripped and hauled away. From there, we brought in 60 cubic yards of screened topsoil amended with organic matter and graded the entire property - front and back. Getting the grade right before any sod goes down is one of the most important steps in this process. Skip it, and you'll end up with drainage problems and an uneven surface that shows up every time it rains.
Once the ground was prepped and smoothed out, we staged pallets of premium sod from Tuckahoe Turf Farms across the yard and got to work laying 8,200 square feet of fresh turf. Tuckahoe is a trusted source for high-quality sod, and it shows in how clean and consistent the finished lawn looks. Front yard, side strips, and the full backyard - all of it covered.
The backyard especially came together well. What was a bare, graded dirt lot is now a full, usable green space surrounding the existing fire pit patio and deck area. The whole property feels completely different.
This is what a proper lawn establishment looks like when it's done right - good soil prep, quality sod, and attention to the details that actually matter for long-term results. If your lawn is past the point of patching, starting over is sometimes the best investment you can make in your property.
