This one was a fun build. Our client's kid plays field hockey, and they wanted a dedicated space at home to practice - no more driving to a field just to get some reps in. We came up with a 50-foot by 30-foot artificial turf field that fits right in the backyard and is ready to use any time.

The turf selection was important here. We went with a quality putting green-style turf because the tight, smooth surface is ideal for field hockey. The ball moves cleanly, stickwork feels natural, and the surface holds up to repetitive use without breaking down. It's the same type of attention we put into any turf installation we do - the right product for the right application.

The base work is what most people don't think about, but it's everything. We laid a clean stone base followed by a fine chip stone bedding layer. That combination gives the surface proper drainage and stability. No soft spots, no settling. The turf sits flat and firm the way it should.

Around the perimeter, we framed the entire field with a 4x4 wood border. It gives the installation a clean, finished look and does something really practical - it keeps practice balls from rolling off the field during shooting and passing drills. Small detail, but it makes a big difference when you're out there running drills on your own.

Builds like this are why we enjoy what we do. It's not just about putting down turf - it's about creating something that actually fits how a family lives and what they care about. A kid who plays competitive field hockey now has a dedicated space to improve right outside the back door. That's hard to put a price on.
