A flat, forgettable front entrance is one of the most common things we see with homes around South Jersey. The house itself might be beautiful - great brick, nice porch, solid bones - but without the right plantings and structure along the foundation, it just doesn't command attention the way it should.
For this Turnersville home, we started from the ground up. We put in a fresh mix of evergreen and flowering shrubs along the foundation, including hydrangeas that were already blooming heavy with white flower clusters, layered in with shrubs that bring some warm reddish-orange color lower to the ground. The Belgium block border was a big part of making this feel finished. That granite block edging runs clean along the entire bed line - both the main foundation bed and the porch-front planting area. It separates the lawn from the mulch sharply, and it gives the whole front of the house a structured, intentional look. No ambiguity about where the bed ends and the grass begins.
Then there's the lighting. We ran low-voltage landscape fixtures throughout both beds. During the day you barely notice them. At night, they do the heavy lifting - washing the brick, uplighting the plantings, and making the entire front of the house visible and welcoming after dark. The porch columns get lit from below, and the tree near the entrance gets its own uplight treatment. It's the kind of curb appeal that works around the clock, not just during daylight hours.
Most front entrances only get attention during the day. When you add landscape lighting done right, your home makes an impression at 9pm just as much as it does at noon.
