A new pool is exciting. But the space around it - that's what turns a pool into an actual backyard you want to spend time in. We see it all the time: a beautiful pool sitting in a sea of bare dirt and construction mess, with no real plan for what comes next. That's exactly what we were working with here in Sewell.

We started with the basics and got them right. Proper grading around the pool area, fresh sod laid cleanly between the pool deck and the planting beds, and aluminum edging to keep everything defined and sharp. The walkway flows naturally from the deck down to the pool - no awkward angles, nothing that feels forced. That kind of flow doesn't happen by accident.

The planting beds along the fence line are built for low maintenance. River stone mulch means no weeding, no re-mulching every year. We selected and installed a mix of upright evergreens and ornamental grasses that give the fence line some real structure without requiring constant attention. The plants are going to look better every year as they fill in - that's the whole point of choosing the right material from the start.

We also took care of a fence repair and installed a new gate to wrap up the perimeter properly. The client had their own lighting installed separately, and honestly it shows exactly why good landscape lighting makes such a difference at night - those plantings along the fence pop in a completely different way once the sun goes down. Every piece of this backyard now works together.

This is what finishing a backyard actually looks like. Not just dropping a pool in and calling it done - but thinking through every zone, every transition, and every plant choice so the whole space holds together. That's what we do.
